Tomatos for Pug health??

an interesting article, that was posted on another site I belong too!
The question that comes up is:
Can tomatos actually help with urinary stone issues??
Possibly according to some of the facts in this article.

Well Piper loves a bit of tomato, so it would be good news if it were true!

hmmm ;)
Well i'm kinda wondering if that is why some pugs like tomatoes and some don't??
I think they instinctively gravitate towards the foods that will help them the most
Pugsley loves tomatos in pastes for sauces
You cannot start a tomato based sauce and he is right there
letting you know that he wants some LOL!
So who knows?!?!? I do not believe that Pugsley has crystals or stones but perhaps he doesn't have them because of the tomatos ?!?!?

I haven't tried tomatoes. I'll have to give them a try. Rosie and Cash are getting alot of carrots. I'm looking for other vegetable suggestions to feed them if anyone has some ideas. I'm not that creative but want to feed them more veggies and less treats.....

Re: Tomatos for Pug health??
I have read so much conflicting stuff about which fruit and veg are good and which are bad, for pugs in particular. I know grapes, raisins, onions are all bad. But I've read conflicting things about fruits with a stone such as mangos, peaches, etc. Good or bad?
It's funny, when I first got Piper 6 months ago, she looked at me like I was crazy if I offered her fruits or veggies. Now, she stand at my feet when she hears me chopping things up, hoping I'll drop some.

Re: Tomatos for Pug health??
Hi Ross and Lisa,
Some good veggies to try are zucchini (the seeds are supposedly natural intestinal bug killers
parsnips (Pugsley loves them)
any type of squash really, pumpkin, acorn, spaghetti etc.
Tomatos ( I usually clean out the seeds)
some canines actually like lettuce and celery
peas for sure and beans
cauliflower
small doses of red, green, ornage and yellow bell peppers too
Fruits I use are:
mangos without the seed
papaya (great enzymatic fruit for the pugs)
apple - granny smith s are best as they are highest in ascorbic acid or Vit C(no core or seed and peeled, cause the skin can catch in their throats)
banana
blueberries for sure - the boys get this in their yogurt
small doses of strawberries are okay - pugs can be allergic too, just like humans so if your pug hasn't already tried a strawberry start with a small bit at first
pineapple
some canines even like lemons, lines and grapefruit
Bubba likes peaches and Pugman won't touch'em
well that is all I can think of right now except
NO avocado not a good thing either!

Re: Tomatos for Pug health??
My Lola loves broccoli. I haven't tried it raw yet. I put cut up broccoli in cold water uncovered, bring it to a boil, cover, shut the heat off and let sit for 5 minutes, then drain and cool. If you even mention the word broccoli she perks right up! Hmm, now that I think of it she does the same when she hears the words chicken, carrots, apples, cookie, watermelon.....

Wow Lori, that's alot of vegetables. Thanks for the suggestions. And Maureen, I'll try some broccoli too when I'm preparing it for ourselves.

This is an answer that is on another site from one of the very well known guru's and I cross post because it was an answer that I had requested about "broccolli"

Good to know because Rosie has possible thyroid issues. I have to have another thyroid panel done on her in a couple months to see how it is doing...

Aw, Rosie!
What's this??
Is our little gal not up to snuff??
I'm so sorry to hear this Ross!
Give Rosie a big hug from us!
and we will cross our fingers that it isn't anything too serious!!
But any of the other items on the food list would be fine for Rosie and Cash, unless you notice anything out of the ordinary going on with them.
I would suggest doing one food group per week and build up to others, just to see if there is a reaction to anything.
That way if there is you can eliminate it right away and go onto something else for them to eat
Keep us posted about Rosie!
We are sending good vibes her way

Oh no, Rosie seems fine. When I adopted her they were just keeping an eye on her thyroid levels as they said she was borderline and I should do another thyroid panel late in the year.

We're just using carrots ourselves, good for many reasons and for many diets. The one treat they ARE allowed.RSLANCA wrote:I haven't tried tomatoes. I'll have to give them a try.
